Experienced and dedicated horticulturists

Our gardening and grounds maintenance team

Originally based on the Flete Estate in Mothecombe, from which the business took its name, Flete Gardens was established in 1957 by a local Devon family. In the early 1990s, the business moved a stone’s throw away to its current home, located  just outside of Modbury. A locale perfectly situated for serving its longstanding and valued customer base which stretches throughout the South Hams and bordering regions.

In 2021, Ben and his wife Abi took ownership of the business. Keen to continue the legacy of their predecessors and reaffirm their relationship with their customers, the business still operates from the same premises and employs several of the same dedicated gardeners.

Ben is a passionate horticulturist and began his career in the gardening and grounds maintenance industry at the age of 21. Starting as an apprentice gardener, he continued his interest and decided to embark upon a career in horticulture. In the subsequent years, he progressed from Team Leader, to Head Gardener, managing wide range of outdoor green spaces, including high-profile public parks and commercial grounds, some of which achieved both Green Flag status and London in Bloom awards. Whilst working, Ben also gained a number of industry recognised qualifications. And in 2021 he completed his Master of Horticulture from the RHS.

Ben leads a small team of skilled, full time gardeners with over 70 years of combined gardening experience. They work all year round to maintain the gardens of our loyal customers and have a wealth of local knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm for their work.
